“There are still good people in the world and the team at Backcountry Recovery Ops are some of the best. Yesterday I took my side by side out, before I left the staging area and lost service I happened to open Facebook, the first post on my screen happened to be from Backcountry Recovery Ops, I don’t follow them but their recovery posts from my favorite trails have been coming on my feed for a few weeks prior like it was a sign I would need them soon. I took a screenshot of that post at 11am and by about 3pm I was stuck with an upper and lower ball joint failure high up in Mary Ellen Gulch It was time to call Backcountry Recovery Ops. Immediately they began looking for parts to do a repair right there on the trail that would allow me to drive back down. But it was getting late on a Sunday no parts could be found so I decided to tow it down the extreme terrain, accepting any damage that may come. By 5pm Mark had organized his team and was headed to me. Weston was the first to reach me with Mark and Gordon about 30 minutes behind in contact on radios tuned into the Hidden Peak Repeater. Weston picked me up and we drove an hour or more back up to my machine before he spent another hour as the sun set trying to remove a seized shock bolt to avoid any more damage during tow. On the radio we could hear Gordon struggling and taking some damage on the way up, sacrificing his own truck to come help rescue me. Mark and Gordon showed up and the real fun began. We tied up my sagging suspension pieces and spun my machine in a circle right where it sat so we could try and float the front end without a wheel as hopefully it wouldn’t catch or drag as bad as towing it forwards. Mark rigged his straps and became the power while Weston attached his winch and became the brakes controlling the operation. I was left in the middle to steer and control my line. At about 8:30pm, with the 3 rigs attached, we towed the side by side about 8 miles (?) total from where I was stuck back to my trailer, down extreme terrain encountering off camber sections risking rollover. We took a short break once we got to the wider, easier main road at about 10pm where I found out Mark was late for work because of this. Mark left and Gordon took over as the leader towing me about another 5 miles in reverse while Weston still acted as the brakes. We got back to my trailer with very minimal damage. They did a great job with a great attitude the whole way, they didn’t care if it took all night to get me out they were determined. By the time I was loaded up it was after 1am, this crew spent 8 hours rescuing me from the side of a mountain risking their own vehicles and equipment and didn’t ask for a dollar. You can tell they really do this because they enjoy it. They are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit run on donations, if you have the means please consider donating to these amazing people. I’m glad I found Backcountry Recovery Ops and will be recommending them to anyone who drives off-road. Don’t be afraid to go get stuck. Thank you Weston, Mark and Gordon for your help.”

“We are usually very prepared and almost always take two rigs for safety. However, our day came to remind us to never take the capabilities of yourself or your vehicle for granted. We decided to only take one vehicle and were hours from home on the shores of Flaming Gorge when we sunk into what originally looked like hard packed sand on the receded shoreline. We had the offer of people closer to help pull us out, but they had no proven skills or certifications other than owning a 4WD vehicle. We didn't want to turn a small problem into a bigger one, potentially hurting people, vehicles, or putting a bigger impression on the environment than we had already done. I'm so grateful that BRO was willing to make the drive. It was clear from the moment they arrived that they weren't there to try the 'let's throw this at the wall and see what sticks' approach. 30 minutes of planning turned into a safe and easy 30 second recovery with no more damage to the shoreline and as little risk as possible to our equipment or persons. “Absolutely Outstanding Service! I cannot say enough good things about Backyard Recovery Operations (BRO). They went far above and beyond to help us recover two side-by-sides that were stuck on the back side of the Salt Lake, near Lakeside—roughly 8 miles west of Delle. Their team came all the way from Sandy and never once made us feel like we were an inconvenience. From the very beginning, BRO handled everything with professionalism, safety, and genuine concern for our well-being. Before even heading out, they asked us for pictures and GPS pins so they could understand the situation. They also asked whether everyone was safe and if we needed water, food, or first aid. That level of care immediately stood out. When they arrived at the Lakeside exit, they knew we would lose cell service, so they provided me with a radio and followed me approximately another 15 miles out to our camp. From there, my cousin and uncle guided them another 15 miles or so off-road through extremely muddy, slimy salt terrain to reach the machines. Once they arrived, they walked the entire site and carefully assessed the situation before attempting any recovery. They developed a safe game plan before ever hooking up a winch. Every step was deliberate, professional, and safety-focused. They successfully recovered both side-by-sides without causing any damage whatsoever. And then came the part that completely blew us away: they told us the entire recovery was free. They didn't ask for a penny, didn't hint at a donation, and never pressured us for anything. We were so grateful that we gladly gave them a substantial donation anyway. We know that wasn't expected, but we wanted to support a company willing to help people when they're in a difficult situation—and hopefully help BRO continue doing this for someone else who may not have the ability to afford the extremely high recovery fees that some companies charge. BRO didn't just recover our machines—they took care of us from start to finish. Professional. Safe. Prepared. Compassionate. Honest. I would give Backyard Recovery Operations 10 out of 10 without hesitation and highly recommend them to anyone who finds themselves in a difficult recovery situation. “I cannot say enough good things about Back Road Country Recovery Operations and how grateful we are for their help on Sunday, especially in the middle of a holiday weekend. We had two SXS that needed to be recovered after an unexpected situation left us stranded with no cell service. My mom and I walked approximately 12 miles back to camp so we could get service and find help, while my husband and dad stayed behind with the SXS trying to rectify the situation. Back Road Country Recovery Operations responded quickly and was willing to come out and help us when we truly needed it. Their quick response, generosity, and willingness to give up their time on a holiday weekend meant more to our family than I can express. I also want to mention a negative comment that was left on Facebook about the situation. I greatly appreciated seeing the owner quickly respond and provide some context and sharing their view with no judgement. Situations can look very different from the outside when someone doesn't know the circumstances or the entire story. Comments and assumptions like that are also exactly why I personally choose not to participate on social media platforms. I have been riding this terrain for more than 30 years, and others in our group have been riding even longer. We know and respect this country and understand the terrain, but we also know how quickly something unexpected can happen out there, regardless of how much experience you have. Being in the middle of nowhere on a holiday weekend, we simply pulled together the cash we had available. “These guys are the absolute best! I got stuck about 10 miles up Mary Ellen's Gulch and they didn't even hesitate to get my Toyota Tacoma of of the face of a cliff. It was a really dangerous situation for their team to be in. 40 Mph winds and heavy rain and hail didn't deter them in the slightest. they showed up with all the right gear and got my Tacoma off of the mountain without so much as a scratch. “It is 1:30am and these guys just got done driving for 4+ hours round trip to meet me 20 miles up hobble creek and spent 12 hours carefully pulling me off a ledge. I thought my there was no way I would ever drive my truck again after sliding off the road in oil slick mud about 50 feet holding on by only a couple of scrub oak. It was a miracle it didn’t roll and with 5 trucks and pulleys and as many winches and rigging and re-rigging and rain and more rain they got me out of the gnarliest, hopeless truck situation I have ever been in. I think if these guys didn’t come, my truck would be at the bottom of a canyon, possibly with a buddy’s truck in tow. They spent their ENTIRE Saturday turning one of my worst days into me sitting at In N’Out eating cheeseburgers (Mark, I think I ate your 3X2 burger) and laughing with new friends about how bad it was.
